Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 July 2026
PassPath is a study app for South African high-school learners. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. If anything is unclear, email us at mthokochaza@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account details — your email address, first name and surname, grade, and optionally your school and province. You give us these when you sign up and complete onboarding.
- Study information — the subjects you take, the marks you enter, your practice and exam answers, topic mastery scores, study streaks, and the exam dates you add to your calendar.
- Tutor conversations — the messages you send to the AI tutor and its replies, so your conversation can continue where you left off and the tutor can remember how you learn best.
- Payment information — if you subscribe to Premium, payment is processed by Paystack. We never see or store your card number; we only keep a record that a payment happened and your subscription status.
How we use it
- To run the app: sign you in, show your dashboard, track your progress, and tailor lessons and practice to your level.
- To power the AI tutor: your questions and study context are sent to OpenAI (our AI provider) to generate teaching responses. OpenAI processes this data to provide the service; we do not use your data to train AI models.
- To match you to careers and universities based on the marks you enter.
- To manage your subscription if you upgrade to Premium.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information to anyone.
- We don't show you advertising.
- We don't collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone audio.
Who we share data with
- Firebase (Google) — handles sign-in and authentication.
- OpenAI — processes tutor conversations and marking so the AI features work.
- Paystack — processes Premium payments.
- Neon — hosts our database.
These providers only receive what they need to do their job.
Children and learners under 18
PassPath is designed for high-school learners, many of whom are under 18. We collect only the information needed to provide the study service, and we encourage learners to use a parent or guardian's guidance when subscribing to Premium. Parents or guardians can request access to, or deletion of, a learner's data at any time using the contact address below.
Your rights (POPIA)
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, you can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Deleting your account removes your profile, marks, progress, tutor conversations and calendar from our database.
Data security
Data is transferred over encrypted connections and stored in an access-controlled database. Payments are handled entirely by Paystack, a PCI-DSS-compliant payment provider.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
